Aims, Mission and Goals

AEFTI Federation and its members have as fundamental purpose to fight against illiteracy, and to promote the right for all to train and qualify themselves. The AEFTIs contribute together, within the Federation, to develop:

  1. their capacities of reflexion, orientation, study, research, and implementation.
  2. the training on all levels to allow the social and professional integration of marginalized people so that they can take fully part in social, economical, political and trade union-related activities.

Structure of the institution

The National Federation is established in Montreuil. It does not welcome learners but coordinates the relationships between the local AEFTI. It’s funded by the DAIC (Directorate for welcoming, integration and citizenship) and ACSE (National agency for social cohesion and equal opportunities).

The AEFTI Network counts approximately 300 tutors who, when they teach French as a foreign language, are in possession of a Master of Education in teaching French as a foreign/second language or can put forward a great experience in the field.

Current lines of work

Each year, the federation organises a seminar. This year it was held in Paris (House of Europe) on 9 December 2010. The theme was the position of the learner in the training.

This was also the chosen theme of the two inter-AEFTI meetings (RIA). The RIA consist in workshops where trainers train themselves and think about their practices. Resources persons are invited and trainers are invited to exchanges about their practices. Together they produce documents from which the entire AEFTI network will benefit.

Furthermore, the federation has a working group “research-action” that work to develop tools for literacy and the training of trainers.

The federation also produces publications, one directed to everyone (Savoirs et Formation) and a scientific journal reviewed by academics (Savoirs et Formation : Recherches et Pratiques).
